1998 Gibson Custom Art & Historic R9 Left Handed. Here we have a fantastic 1959 R9 reissue which according to the serial number is the first R9 made in 1998. Selected lightweight non-chambered mahogany body with a hand selected premium carved flamed maple top. Gibson's classic chunky '59 rounded carve profile Mahogany neck with a deep joint and long neck tenon. 12” radius Indian rosewood fingerboard and pearloid trapezoid inlays. ’59 Tobacco Sunburst finish with a dark back. Kluson replica tuners, ABR-1 bridge (without retaining wire), and lightweight aluminum stop-bar tailpiece.
Vintage letter-style format starting with a 9, followed by a space and the year (e.g., 9 8XXX for a 1998 model). Gibson ’57 Classic humbuckers with the usual 2 x Volume, 2 x Tone controls own a 3 way toggle switch. Cream plastics and gold bonnet knobs. The nut width is 42.5mm approx. This guitar weighs 8.79Lb or 3.99Kg.
 
NOTE!! Instruments from this year were typically shipped in a period-correct Gibson Custom Art & Historic brown/pink-lined hardshell case. Instead of a modern Certificate of Authenticity (COA), 1998 models relied on a factory serial number inspection card. Unfortunately the card is no longer present. In fantastic overall barely played condition, very clean and excellent sounding LP!.
