1974 Gibson Les Paul Custom Watermelon red with hard shell case. Very cool mid 70s LP custom in unusual Red finish. Typical pancake Mahogany/maple body with a 3 piece Maple top. 3 Piece Mahogany neck with a 12” radius Ebony fingerboard and MOP Block inlays. The guitar has had a Re-fret a while back and although the frets are in good condition they do show some pitting and wear. It plays fine and there are no dead spots. There is also enough fret wire left for a fret dress. Newer Repro waffle back tuners. The pickups are stamped Pat Numbers. The pickup surrounds have been replaced with non Gibson 50s style as well s the scratch-plate. A set of Gibson Speed knobs in gold was also added. There is small plugged hole between the knobs which was probably drilled for a microswitch that is no longer part of the wiring and the wiring is set back to standard. The pots that can be dated do date to the first few weeks of 1974 (we can only see the first digit and that is a zero). The caps have also been upgraded to a set of PIOs. Gold ABR1 bridge and tailpiece. There is 2 extra bridge adjustment weeks set at the base for extra stability. The strap buttons have been changed to Dunlop strap locks. The guitar is in overall good condition beside some buckle rush, a few dings, some minor scratches and a slightly enlarged pick-guard screw hole at the top (see photos). It also looks like there was a strap button placed a the back near the toggle back plate. One of the backplate screws was just replaced also as it was missing. No breaks or or other repairs beside the aforementioned microswitch plug. Great player and very good sounding. This guitar weighs 4.94Kg or 10.89Lb.The nut width is 42.5mm. Comes with the original black tolex hardshell case.
